Mayor’s Office
Welcome to the City of South Charleston. This web site is full of information about our city and also will enable you to conduct city business on-line for your convenience.
I encourage you to scan the web site to learn about what we think is one of the best cities in the State of West Virginia. South Charleston is a city with a population of 13,300 and is conveniently located off Interstate 64 in the middle of Kanawha County. Our location gives you great access to many places around the area. To the east, we are minutes away from downtown Charleston, the State Capital, Appalachian Power Park along with the University of Charleston and Yeager Airport. To the west you will find Tri-State Greyhound Park and West Virginia State University.
South Charleston offers a great variety of shopping. Which includes the Wal-Mart Shopping Center on Corridor G as well as the Shops of Trace Fork; these two areas offer many large department stores and restaurants. Our downtown and Spring Hill business district areas also offer a variety of shops, hotels and restaurants. Located in the heart of South Charleston is the Riverwalk Plaza which is anchored by Krogers and surrounded by many shops and eateries.
Our city is well known for its quality of service offered in all areas. We are very proud of the recreation facilities we have to offer. From the South Charleston Community Center which offers a 25 meter indoor pool, a full gymnasium and racquetball courts. Along with a xpera group health club, tanning beds, party rooms it also offers exercise classes. To the South Charleston Memorial Ice Arena, this facility has a full size arena, an arcade and a heated seating area. Also available here are party rooms, learn to skate classes and offers youth and adult hockey leagues. We also have the Little Creek Golf Course which is an 18 Hole Championship course with a full service restaurant and bar, ballroom facilities for parties and receptions that also have catering services available. In the summer months we have an outdoor pool for your enjoyment as well. Probably our best kept secret is Little Creek Park. This beautiful 250 acre park has it all. From picnic shelters, hiking trails to playgrounds. Also hidden among the natural settings are five baseball and softball fields and both soccer and football fields as well. There is also an active competitive soap box derby track which holds meets here every year. So for whatever your recreation needs may be South Charleston has it all available to you for your use.
We have a great future planned in South Charleston. There are many plans for growth in our business communities and we are very progressive in our City government. For example, South Charleston will be the first in the State to offer all business districts a wireless access. There are many other plans for future South Charleston.
See you around town!
